This is where I post my serials and my works-in-progress. Think of it as a sort of early-access meets Patreon and/or Substack. I like the organization of this platform far more than what I can do on Patreon and it doesn't have the same sort of... potential censorship issues. Nor does it actively seek out people of certain political persuasions like Substack and pay them lots of money to move their readership there.

This is still 🚧 Under Construction. 🚧

I want to get around to doing some edits on the content I have here already and I'm still moving some other content over from Ream and my other sites. Eventually, all bonus content posted elsewhere over the years will be here! And I'll be giving all of it a fresh pair of eyes to make any edits and clean it up if I feel past!me was a bit lax. Especially The Last Page! I wrote that first season in a few short, sleep-deprived days!

What you can find here:

💞 The Last Page

The lesbian otome isekai serial I started in 2023 and had to take a haitus from. I hope to re-start that here! It's dual POV and one of the lesbians is trans and the other is disabled.

A sapphic otome isekai

🌠 Crossroads of Fate

My progression fantasy-ish serial. Set about 1000 years before the events of Stars and Soil and is an official part of the Scions and Shadows series. It has an ensemble casts and, of course, lesbians.

Crosroads of Fate - A Queer Fantasy Web Serial by Dax Murray
The existence of their gods hanging in the balance, a group of mystical researchers must prevent a sinister plot to wreck havoc and destroy magic.

🌹 Shackles and Shards

My current WIP, it's the third full novel in the Scions and Shadows series, set some time after the events of Smoke and Steel. It follows the adventures of a priestess for the death goddess, a temporarily disgraced former noble, and an assassin as they protect their people from a disastrous ancient force.

What happened to the other place(s)?

Yes, I was publishing these on Ream. I was very happy on Ream for quite some time. In July, however, there were some major shake ups organizationally at Ream. These shake ups saddened me a great deal, and left me feeling a little unsure about the future of Ream and its stability as a platform. I kept going because I believed in it, but several of its recent-ish decisions have left me feeling unheard and with a platform that I felt wasn't meeting my needs.

I self publish because I like freedom, and having my serials on a platform where I felt I didn't have the full freedom to do what I want....? I didn't like it. The thought of even logging in made me flinch. So I set out to make something for myself.

Ghost is an open-source platform, I can modify the code as I wish and host it where I want. Right now I'm using Ghost's own hosting and SaaS while I make the modifications that I want on my end. I wanted to launch something quickly, though. So I can start with this just to get it up and running while I fiddle with my own instance of Ghost. When I'm done, I won't be reliant on other people. Huge leadership changes won't affect me. Pivots in company direction won't leave me stranded.

I very, very briefly tested out Substack in July when the Ream "stuff" started happening. I didn't really like it for many reasons, primarily because it took such a large cut, and secondarily because there was a large contingent of literary fiction writers who made a ton of disparaging comments about genre fiction writers and how they don't deserve payment. And then I learned about it being a Nazi Bar, so yeah, that was not gonna work.

I did contemplate using Patreon, but they take a large cut, there are issues with their app and Apple, and I couldn't implement any of the customizations I would want to make it easy to navigate and organize content. I considered Ko-Fi, but same thing. Ghost gives me many tools out of the box and the freedom to create the tools it doesn't already have. And it doesn't take a single penny. I just have to pay for hosting (around $12/mo) and my domain name (which I already own and have been paying for for years as I use it for everything.)

I believe I will be much happier here. And being happy is important to me and my writing.

FAQ:

How do I sign in?

The platform that I use to host this is passwordless. You don't need to remember a password. When you want to sign in, a magic link will be sent to your email. Click the link and you will be logged in. For this reason, when signing up, please use an email box you have regular access to.

What do you do besides writing?

I also run Queer Books Weekly, a weekly newsletter highlighting specials, deals, and promotion of queer books. Think of it like Bookbub... but only queer literature. I also run the Lesbian SFF Bingo Challenge to highlight and promote more lesbian fiction in the speculative fiction space. I do also run a personal newsletter that goes out twice a month, in which I further highlight queer books and books featuring protagonists with disabilities.

I used to be a software engineer, but those days are behind me. I did put my coding knowledge to use in constructing this site, however. I certain wrote too much JavaScript to bring above the existence of the paragraph indentation toggles.
